Come one, come all to our exciting new series Women in Business, where we chat to amazing local female-identifying creatives, entrepreneurs and business owners who are kicking butt, with an aim of supporting local women and local business.
And speaking of kicking butt, today we introduce the amazing Della Stanley of Sydney’s Dellafit. Della came to her fitness career after 15 years as a litigation lawyer. She now runs her own fitness business, has her own heavy training load and is the mother to 4 children. All of this means that Della is aware of the stresses and strain placed on women these days!

Della, tell us, what keeps you busy?
I’m up most days before 5am to walk my dog before hitting the park to lead the first workout session of the day, which starts at 6am. My workdays are a mixture of running sessions, liaising with my clients and coaches, planning and marketing.
I also have 4 kids ranging in age from 9 to 20. My oldest recently left home but still seems to need me some of the time! I also train hard myself as I really believe in living the kind of life I promote for my clients. I include my training as part of my “down time” as it is something I actually love.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the women who I train who give it their all. There are some who really commit and instead of making excuses they turn up time after time and it is great to see their efforts pay off. I love seeing the look on someone’s face when they do something that they thought would be beyond them.
Getting fit and paying attention to nutrition not only has immediate benefits – it sets women up to be more resistant to disease and to be able to thrive as they get older with strong bones and healthy hearts.
What are you reading/ listening to?
I am listening to the Hamilton soundtrack. I also listen to a lot of podcasts. I’m listening to a fun one at the moment called Sentimental Garbage about Sex and the City. I read a lot. Recent favourite reads have been Honeybee and The Dictionary of Lost Words.
What's your favourite Darlinghurst haunt and why?
I spend a lot of time at Apache Salut which is near the local primary school, catching up with friends for a coffee.
Where do you go to unwind?
I can usually be found most days strolling around at Rushcutters Bay Park with the dog. I will have a coffee at the kiosk there. I also love to catch a movie at the Verona.

What's your perfect Saturday look like?
All the kids’ school and club sports have been cancelled. Instead, I get to do my own training session and walk the dog. Then I am off to the beach (Nielsen Park or North Bondi) for a few hours to read a book and swim. I might get a pedicure or catch a late afternoon movie with a good friend and then have a meal out with the family – maybe Japanese at Yachiyo.
